Top 10 Steel Coasters List
Welcome to an Incrediblecoasters Top 10 List. When we list stuff, we actually explain why. Steel Coasters. They come in so many different shapes and sizes. They can do so much. They can succesfully go upsidedown and just twist in ways that wooden coasters just can't. While wooden coasters were the cool kids on the block in the 20s, steel coasters were still being developed. A couple steel coasters began popping up in the 50s. In 1959, the first modern steel coaster opened up in the Disneyland Resort as the Matterhorn, which is known to people all around the world. But what really made steel coasters take off was the first mine train, Runaway Mine Train, opening at Six Flags Over Texas. Mine Trains then began popping up like daisies along with Galaxies and Schwarzkohpf Wildcats, and Jumbo Jets. Steel Coasters were doing great, but what really revolutionized the steel coaster was Corkscrew at Knotts Berry Farm (Now located at Silverwood). This was the first succesfull coaster to go upsidedown. Since then, people have gone nuts for inversions.

And the list on innovations just keeps piling up. Schwarzkohpf Shuttle Loops first invented launch coasters as well as shuttle coasters, Magnum XL 200 at Cedar Point became the first hyper coaster and revolutionized size, and many many other innovations have shaped steel coasters into the crazy twisted humongous mind f*cking machines that are today's steel coasters. They can come in every shape imaginable. Some are amazing, some are just ok, some are for credit whores only, and some make you want to cry. The possibilities for steel coasters are endless with all the endless breeds of steel coasters and all the insane types of coasters within that breed of coasters. However, within all of the thousands of steel coasters in the world, which ones are the best? Which steel coasters make you want to jump up with joy the most? And which breeds make the cut? Well, we don't answer that. But by looking at the list, you can get a semi idea of what our style is. So sit back and be prepared to take a look at this list of some of the wildest rides ever. You're going to see 10 amazing roller coasters that that turned simple metal into 10 insane rides. They literally turned sh*t into gold here. Now let's take a look at the list.

#10.
Incredible Hulk @
Universal Orlando Resort
Orlando, Florida, U.S.A
Peircing the skys of the Universal Orlando Resort, The Incredible Hulk is not the type of ride that tricks many guests into thinking it's just a tiny little coaster. Following a launch into a heartline roll, you then take on a humongus vertical loop and cobra roll. In fact, this is so far, the only launched B&M ever built. Now to be fair, B&M just built the rest of the ride and told Universal to find someone else to do the launch. And you know those ride's that look huge and intimidating, but don't live up to the hype? Well Hulk's not like that. It looks fast and huge, and it is. And to top it all off, the ride has some cool theming that really helps add to the ride. The Incredible Hulk. Umm....What to say...What to.... ROAR!!!!!! ME HULK!!!! ME GOT #10 SPOT ON LIST!!!!!

#9.
Nitro @
Six Flags Great Adventure
Jackson, New Jersey, U.S.A
When you have the #1 Wooden Coaster of all time in your home park, it's hard to really care about much else. Though one shouldn't forget about Nitro. While it may not be nearly as crazy as its next door neighbor El Toro, it sure is a lot of fun. It's a fun B&M Hyper Coaster with a really fun first drop, some really fast speeds, and some strong floater air. Now this ins't the weak floaty floater air that people usually talk about like that found on La Ronde's Goliath. It's fairly strong floater air. Though I will admit that Nitro is overrated as is its floater air. Nitro is not the greatest coaster ever built, no matter how many enthusiasts scream that it is. But still be sure to check out Nitro. It really is a fun B&M Hyper and a great addition to Six Flags Great Adventure.

#8.
Behemoth @
Canada's Wonderland
Vaughan, Ontario, Canada
In a sea of clones and other average rides, Behemoth stands out like sore thumb, literally. It dominates the skyline of Canada's Wonderland with it's bigass drop and huge hills. Or at least it did until Leviathan came along and went and copied Behemoth while adding an extra 100 ft. Behemoth knows how to get a really fun ride with it's high speeds, open seating, and floater air. Now to be fair, like on Nitro, the floater air on this is overrated. I'm not sure what it is about B&M Hypers and overrated floater air, but they all seem to have this quality. It's like one of the laws of physics. All B&M Hypers must have overrated floater air. But oh well. It's still a really great ride. And it is my favorite of the 4 B&M Hypers I have ridden. What more do I need to say? Behemoth is a solid coaster that put a pretty big grin on your face. Behemoth. Proving that Canadians can do thing right too.

#7.
Green Lantern (Unbalanced) @
Six Flags Magic Mountain
Valencia, California, U.S.A
I was pretty iffy about putting Green Lantern on the list because the ride experience can vary tremendously depending on how balanced your cars are. When its all balanced up, it's lame as there's no flipping. Just dropping. Though even thats fun since you do get some airtime on the drops and one flip on the final hump. However when its unbalanced, man does it get crazy. You never really know what you'll get. Sometimes you'll flip during the first half, which means you're really having a crazy ride. Sometimes you just go nuts in the second half. Sometimes you don't flip on the final hump, which leads to some EXTREME ejector air. All I know is that its crazy. Now many people complain and say that Green Lantern sucks because its so tame compared to Insane @ Grona Lund. Well if that's the case, I need to get my ass to Grona Lund ASAP as Insane must truely be insane. But anyways, Green Lantern. Marathoning it can give you a headache (Not joking and its worth it).

#6.
Montu @
Busch Gardens Tampa
Tampa, Florida, U.S.A
Named after the Egyptian God of war, Montu manages to give you quite a ride. With all that this ride does, you would think that you were on the battlefields of a war. Except you're not crapping your pants in fear thinking "OH SH*T!!!!! I'M GOING TO DIE!!!!!!!" (Well, at least if you're not a rollercoaster enthusiast.) But still. This is a really damn good ride. You've got seven inversions, one of them is a batwing, which is awesome. And to top it all off, Montu is really really forceful. This is no Silver Bullet or Talon here. We're really talking forecful here. Now to be fair and give it some critisism, there are some trim brakes on Montu which if removed could bring Montu up a few spots. However, I know that they need to be there for maintenence, GP Appeal, and other appeal. And I don't act like a two year old and throw a temper tantrum like a lot of enthusiasts are doing about a certain ride. *cough* Intimidator 305 *cough*. But even so, Montu is a damn good ride with some damn strong forces. Montu. It's better than the actual Pyramids of Giza.

#5.
Phantoms Revenge @
Kennywood
West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, U.S.A
Phantoms Revenge has a very interesting history. It was originally known as Steel Phantom which was like Phantoms Revenge, but with loops. Some people loved it and some people hated it. But who cares. In 2001, they turned Steel Phantom into Phantom's Revenge and it is awesome. It doesn't matter if Steel Phantom was good or not because it is now being replaced by one of the best rollercoasters of all time. Seriously. This ride is amazing. I mean, the airtime on this ride is just incredible. Your ass will really be in for a treat on Phantoms Revenge. But there's far more to it than ejector air. Phantom's Revenge also has some great speed, some good laterals, and some other suprises. It's also very unique as the second drop is the biggest drop and the layout that it has is not common for a hyper coaster. But nevertheless, it is amazing. Phantom's Revenge. The Opera doesn't know what's coming to it.

#4.
Kumba @
Busch Gardens Tampa
Tampa, Florida, U.S.A
Busch Gardens Tampa is a really awesome park since is their second coaster on our top 10 list. And rightly so. They're both awesome. Their star attraction is definetly Kumba. Now when you first look at Kumba, it looks fun. But it doesn't look special. It looks like your typical B&M standard layout. However, there's just one secret ingredient that really propels Kumba up the list from all the others. FORCE!!!! This may be one of the most forceful coasters ever. Seriously, this ride brings Montu down to the level of Silver Bullet and Talon. That's how strong the forces are on this ride. In fact, when I was riding Kumba Superman Style, I almost thought that my arm was going to come out of the socket in the heartline spin. That's how powerful this ride is. You don't hear me say that on any other coasters, now do you. Kumba. It learned to use the force.

#3.
X2 @
Six Flags Magic Mountain
Valencia, California, U.S.A
Located right in my own backyard, X2 is one of those coasters that thinks outside the box. It's the type of coaster you'd see on a Saturday Morning Cartoon that just looks demented, so this obviously gets peoples attention as they have to drive right by it to get into the parking lot. And rightly so. This ride is insane. You don't even know if you're going foreword or backwards. (Well, you do, but it switches throughout the ride.) Now originally, X2 opened up as X. But then X was having problems with it's trains, so they turned it into X2 and gave it new trains. Oh, and gave it music, fire, and a paint job that actually fits the ride. X2 doesn't do things that normal coasters do. It does a lot of strange funky stuff that while you don't really know what it is, it plants a smile on your face every single time. I know. I rode it about a bazillion times and I ALWAYS come off happy. And on top of that, it is home to the greatest first drop on any coaster ever built. So yeah, this ride is amazing. X2. You better be in, for the ceremony is about to begin.

#2.
Bizarro @
Six Flags New England
Agawam, Massachusettes, U.S.A
There are a lot of hyper coasters out there. However, none of them match up to Bizarro. Nitro & Behemoth may be fun and have overrated floater air, but Bizarro can kick both of their asses in a millisecond. And the airtime. Oh man. The airtime on this thing is freaking incredible. It's got all sorts of ejector air including those crazy bunny hops as well as the "It Happens Hill" where no matter where you sit, you get ejected out of your seat. You can't avoid it. It happens. And it even has some floater air such as on the first hill right after the 1st Drop. But Bizarro not only has great airtime, but it also has a great first drop, nice speeds, a nice setting, fun oppertunites to "TAKE THE TUNNEL!!!!!", and of course, some truely crazy laterals in the second half that work quite nicely with the crazy ejector air bunny hops. Bizarro. BIZARRO NOT QUITE #1, BUT BIZARRO STILL BETTER THAN MOST COASTERS OUT THERE!!!!

#1.
Maverick @
Cedar Point
Sandusky, Ohio, U.S.A
When you first look at Maverick, you say to yourself, "That's it?" "That's the #1 Coaster?" "That thing is puny!!!" Yeah, well just ride it and then come back to me. This thing is f*cking amazing. Everything about this ride is just pure shock. While the ride may be puny, it is POWERFUL!!!!!!! It is seriously the craziest ride any coaster can give you. It's the type of ride that makes your mouth drop right after it just dropped from another amazing element on the ride. Now you may ask yourself, what does Maverick do? Here's your answer. EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!! It has a crazy first drop AND an intense launch along with some EXTREME ejector air, some smooth inversions, and some of the most insane laterals you'll ever encounter. These things would make a Wild Mouse commit suicide in shame. So yeah. It may be small, but it does everything and it does everything right. Maverick. The most badass coaster on the planet.

So now I'm sure you know what you're thinking. "Wow. That was the list. That is so wrong." Well no. This is just the current list. I haven't been on every steel coaster in the world, so until I do, this list is innacurate for a world wide description. There are still many many great steel coasters out in the world that would instantly make this list. In fact, I'm probably going to have to rewrite this list next year after I ride Bizarro next summer. And even when I do ride all of them, rides will deteriorate, go bad, and new ones will be built, so no list will ever last forever. But still, this list does pay tribute to 10 fantastic steel coasters that every roller coaster enthusiast should ride in their lifetime. And if you could tell, most of the rides on this list had similar qualities which appealed to my taste in steel coasters. However, steel coasters can come in many different styles and tastes for all sorts of people, enthusiasts or not, who have different tastes in coasters. There are still many other great coasters out there not on this list. Ones that I have ridden and know about and simply didn't make the cut, and ones that I haven't ridden yet and are just waiting to get into the Incrediblecoasters System. Either way, check out these Top 10 coasters. Every single one of them kicks some major ass.
